Week 1 Highlights of teaching:
- Students responding to my guidelines and task. Eg Year 8 ICT class, they are lovely bunch of students who work independently most of the time, but it varies. They get restless aafter a max of 90 minutes working independently on task and starts to muck around with each other, throwing objects around in room, etc.
- Week 1 is over! yay!
- great meeting my Year 11s and Year 12s.... lovely bunch to work with. Only thing is that I have to get them more information and "teach" them, as my mentor's way of teaching is somehow starting to surface and show that it is rather not how i would teach them. But anyhow, i have to do now what she wants as she is my mentor and ultimately, she will be writing my report.
Week 1 Downside of teaching:
- back to back lessons throughout the whole day on Tuesdays (no free lessons)
- lessons are not well taught in my Year 11 and 12 classes (i know i didn't do a good job but sometimes my mentor has a fake way of saying 'well done...it was great')
- mentor put down a Yr 12 student for being on time (as agreed by everyone before the excursion) but late accoding to her as she rounded up students 20mins before the pre-determined time to meet back together was up. Hence, i feel bad for the girl, cos it almost reduced her to tears. What I don't like about it is, she told her off in front of Year 11 and 12 students (in the bus), in front of me and another teacher, told her she's inconsiderate and would never bring her out on excursions with her again.
- mentor's not being very genuine with comments
- photocopier machine (i want to smash it..... =.= had a huge fight with it on Thursday and reduced me to being so mentally and physically exhausted. i think it's very old machine) keeps having paper jams after photocopying a few pages. URGH
Things to improve on for next week:
- plan lessons in more detail
- work out specific roles during team teaching
- speak MORE in class and EXPLAIN MORE of WHATEVER in class
- communicate MORE with mentor. I'm fine with communicating perfectly well with my ICT mentor but not my SOSE+HealthED+OutdoorED+ExtensionStudies mentor.
