Today it has been an exhausting day for me, eventhough I've only had 1 lesson. Actually it was going well until one student in my that ONE lesson, decided to be really pessimistic & shut down & see no point in doing the things we are doing in class.
Mind you, this are not the student/s who are the usual suspects of not paying attention, not completing their assignments, rock up late to class everytime. This is ONE of the quiet, hiding away from the teacher's radar, those who quietly slips away. Nah-uh, not mine. This student doesn't ask questions if he doesn't understand something; he'll just quit doing it & start reading his book =.=''' So i sat down with him and go through what he needs to be doing for his assignments. He is already behind schedule, as he is missing half the lessons every single week because he needs to go on apprenticeship. Can you believe it ~ I asked him to do this and that and explain it to him and he would just be frowning and get irritated at my suggestions (as he would mumble something and I asked "what was it?" and he would be like "hm."). THat really frustrated me as he is already missing half the lessons every week and would not try and catch up and he is not taking in my help. I am seriously talking to a brick wall. No matter how thick the wall was, I spent the (whole) lesson sitting with him explaining to him, baby step by step, what he shoudl be doing and what the subject is all about. He seems confused about what the subject is all about and said it's not his kinda thing. I went through with him what the course is ALL about and I kinda figured he is not expressive enough and not creative at all. Well that's what the course is about; to get you exploring the different possibilities and designs to make a final product professional. I would take him step by step guiding him in his assignment and he would tell me, no, that doesn't work at all. I asked him to use WordArt to be more creative and he would say 'why would you use something fancy when it's a list. NO one would see it'. I'm like {Speechless}. I asked him to put a heading in. He say why. A list should just contain the list. =.='''''''''''''' MAJOR SWEAT.... At this stage, i knew he probably wouldn't be easy to work with. He has weaknesses in this subject and he is not taking any advice or exploring further the use of hardware and software and manipulating pictures to suit the product.
Actually for the first time (i think) the ENTIRE class (even the boys I was kinda mad at weeks ago as they were pushing my boundaries as a teacher - leaving class, not rocking up, late to classes, not paying attention at all & not doing work at all). They were ALL DOING their latest assignment which i handed out today AND all quiet. They probably could tell I am doing some major serious 1 to 1 help with a brick wall and I was still talking in a calm manner but with him frowning every now and then, I was getting frustrated with his attitude and not trying to take in what i'm saying. He doesn't want to explore further; so that defeats the purpose of being 'creative' in this subject and the purpose of this subject is 'trying to be creative' and play around with the design. Even the worst kid in the class (not that bad actually but since all of them are great kids with no problems, the worst kid has just abit of attitude like as if they r being 'cool'), is doing his work and asking me if i had the example i showed them from last lesson. This quiet boy was really giving me a bad day! Literally i felt like i've just drove into a brick wall because he's reluctant to try the ideas/suggestions. Bleh. But yes, now I'm feeling better. Cos I had lunch and talked to a couple of my colleagues about random stuff & holidays. LOL. So that got my mind off him. But yea, maybe he needs extra support such as notes or examples so that he understands it more. Besides, missing 2 out of 4 lessons every week do not help the situation AT ALL.
And I'm totally exhausted atm. I have Year 12 assessments to mark and create, Year 11 assignments to mark and create, Yr 10 assignmetns to mark & next topic to create, planning lesson plans & also twice a week (at nite) , I'm spending time at school supervising Yr 12 boarders with their homework. I just started the nite shift yesterday and I got tonite to do as well, and I'm going flat out. Blehhhhhhhhhhh.........
Enjoying the life though so far. Abit lonely but my mum will be up here on Sat! So that's good news. lol. But yes, stil no social life. It's actually hard fitting in social life when you've got a working life and especially if you have a family as well. :) Hehehe. When i'm settled in with my working life, I'll start introducing some curricular activities in such as sports or something.
Alrights, back to work.
