Had a good day today.... I was not feeling nervous the whole week (if you read my earlier blog post) you would know why I should feel nervous.
Anyhow, all week I had been grilling my Year 10 students about their behaviour in class and I've managed with some retrospect, achievement and success in managing their behaviour. I guess I don't like doing all the nagging & persuading all the time, but kids need these in their lives. Without it, they will become slack and habitual to their bad habits and it will be harder to change them when they did not have these routine set out for them from an early point.
So, this morning I had a double lesson 1 and 2 with my beautiful Year 10 Programming class. My manager's already in the class checking out the computers (she normally does that to keep her busy and check whether the comps are in tact). I was outside the door giving them instructions to sit at the tables in the middle of the room, instead of always rushing in and going onto a computer and logging on and then fiddling with music or youtube or whatever. It was abit of a trouble settling them at first (they are usually not that energetic in the mornings!! but today they were) So i fore warned them about the consequences if they don't pay attention within a given time frame (i introduced the routine of counting down from 5 - 0 and if i reach 0 and they are not quiet, the whole class will go on recess detention). Muahahaha. I haven't given them yet because they haven't pushed the limit yet. Today they were trying to but I'm like "I have all the time in the world to stay back during recess with you". And usually I would say "Year 10s, quiet......face the front" but if that doesn't get through to them, I'll start counting down. 5, 4, 3. Muahaha, it gotten me just to get to 3 before they all went quiet and looking my way. Yay, so I felt like i nailed it in front of my manager. Anyways, so I wasn't nervous the whole time although A tiny bit nerve wrecking but moments like that, I just tell myself "hell with it. just do it for the kids". Anyways, so I gotten to say to them what I wanted them to do for the whole 2 lessons. They listened patiently and everything went well. My manager stayed for 15-20mins I think and then she told me great, it's good. And then left the class, as she found a headphone that's stolen from one fo the computers (they are all secured to the computers with a cable tie). So for the rest of the lessons, they were really into the group task (LEGO ROBOTICS) ahhahahaha. If you want to know what's Lego Robotics, that'll be another story later.
I had such a great relief that i think my obsrvations are finally over for my probation period (this 6 mths). Yay!!!! YAYYYYYYY.....
Okie, I probably shoulda taken this time to do abit more of my markings but oh well, it's Friday! woohooo
Elaine Chua had a friend who just started working up here as well and I'll be meeting her tomorrow. She might be renting in my unit but i think it's way inconvenient for her as she work in the city and i stay like 30mins from the city. What's more she does not have a car and my rent (if shared equally would be $175 pw) is high for her budget. But hey, the rent up here is EXPENSIVE, let's face it. It's going to be EVEN MORE expensive from next year onwards because of Inpex coming here & setting up their billion $ gas plant and producing even more interstate recruitments of employees.
