it's alright

.

Decided that I'm not going to be battled over, it is something that I can improve on.

I grilled my Year 10 students today for their behaviour and attitude yesterday during my observation. Haha, do I sound mean? lol... i'm usually quite laid back and yes, i have to say they do tend to push the boundary day by day (or rather, lesson by lesson) that maybe in 6 weeks' time, i will forget how good the class can be. I just need to grill them on their routine in class.
Basically half the lesson today (50mins in a lesson), going over the class expectations again. I was being *very serious* and for the few times i've seen them ALL quiet at the same time for like an achievement of 10minutes silence, I was going over some rather mundane stuff such as, no feet on tables, don't talk over the teacher when teacher is speaking to the whole class, pay attention when i'm addressing the whole class so you know what you need to do in the lesson rather than me explaining 50times in a lesson, etc.

I introduced the strategy where if I need to get their attention when they are busy talking, i will countdown. I said if i get to 0 and they are still busy talking, they will remain in during recess and do the silent thing. They were actually counting down with me when i did =.= (bloody kids). And they added a blastoff at the end. wth. anyways, i was supposed to be damn serious but i guess i didn't have the *angry* look. =.= So i repeated myself, ONLY I CAN COUNTDOWN, YOU ARE MEANT TO BE QUIET BY THEN. Cheshh, what can you do when you have a bunch of mostly Yr 10 boys in a room and say/do stupid things... =.= I need to *ACT COOL*. I'm serious, if i seem to lose it in class on a regular basis, the kids won't be affected by it later. Same with yelling. If you yell often, the kids take it as you're being loud and take no attention to u when you actually want to yell at them! So all the time, i am laid back and polite and laughing abit in class, but seldom talk to them in a serious tone or show my anger. So i probably should save that *face* until something really piss me off, so then they DO know that 'oh, Miss is angry...better behave now'..

This is what i need to practice with them from now on....behaviour management.

I'm fine now. just that i think i know what to do but it's only a matter of following it through and the kids responding to it. Hope that'll work next time my line manager comes in and observe me. Speaking of which, she's coming to observe my class of 2 students (Yr 11 IT) tmr..... lol Big class huh? I actually have 3 students but then one is away this week on Performing Arts in Sydney.

Ok, have to get ready for a meeting soon. Toodles!! *For some reason i sound really happy...... don't know why is that*

Ooo, some positive feedbacks from parent teachers interviews I had yesterday with some of the parents from my Year 11 and 10 classes:

- She is really enjoying your class. She asks you questions in class; when she doesn't like a teacher, she doesn't ask questions in class.
- How are you going? Hope you are enjoying teaching! (as a parent knows that i'm a graduate teacher and she's really nice).

Actually all the parents are really nice and all. I was really scared and nervewrecking to meet parents at first but then after yesterday, I really enjoyed meeting parents. I guess no one likes to meet parents if they are to tell them that their kids are failing and not doing anything in class etc.

Okie, enough of me rambling on.....Actually can't believe you've read up to this point here!!! lol. Thanks bah ~ for following my journey here :)
